Chamber Music Side by Side: the Educational Project

In a music world that poses significant career challenges for a great number of professionals who have either been trained for careers as soloists or for the few full-time orchestra positions that are generally available, an intensive and high level chamber music training proves to be invaluable in furthering young professional musicians’ skills of communicating, interacting and ultimately of nurturing their own artistic communities.

As current music faculty members at three different colleges in the Los Angeles area, the musicians of trio FUGU witness time and again that students who enjoy an inspired chamber music education, as opposed to purely soloistic or orchestral training, often become the most active members of their own artistic generation. It is often these students, with their knowledge and passion for independent collaborations through chamber music, who are able to bring art into their community through engaging projects, thus helping to close the ever-widening gap between the arts and the wider community._MG_2615_SM

With an invitation from the director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music in Hanoi for a ten-day residency in the Spring of 2014, trio FUGU is pleased to inaugurate their project Chamber Music Side by Side to help establish a chamber music curriculum at this important music institution in Southeast Asia. During a series of intensive workshops the musicians of trio FUGU will work with music students in small groups studying, rehearsing and performing cornerstone works of the chamber music repertoire. Trio FUGU will provide these students at VNAM with a unique learning experience that will prepare them to initiate their own music endeavors independent from a mainstream and largely orchestral circuit. With chamber music serving as a universal art form of communication and diplomacy, it is of great priority for trio FUGU to cultivate students’ enthusiasm for entrepreneurship and to ultimately fuel their passion for becoming a creative and active force in their cultural communities.

It is the vision of trio FUGU to regularly bring Chamber Music Side by Side to music institutions and schools both in the US and around the globe. Your generous support of this program is very much appreciated; all contributions are fully tax-deductible.
