About Us

Acclaimed for their charismatic and captivating performances, the musicians of trio FUGU, pianist Ming Tsu, violinist Lorenz Gamma and cellist Joon Sung Jun, have performed in prestigious venues across Asia, Europe and the US. Highlights of the 2015/16 season include concert tours to Switzerland, Vietnam, performances of the Beethoven triple concerto in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and their recording of the original music for “SILA and the Gatekeepers of the Arctic”, a documentary film on the culture of Greenland which was recently premiered at the film festivals in Montreal and London.

Integral to trio FUGU’s thriving concert activity is their passionate commitment to education. In 2014, trio FUGU launched an international educational project Chamber Music Side by Side, through which the trio works with aspiring young musicians in the United States and Asia in the setting of intensive chamber music coaching sessions and workshops, culminating in joint concert performances. The mission of Chamber Music Side By Side is to ignite the collaborative spirit in young musicians and their communities across social and cultural borders to become mindful and engaged citizens of the world. In the spring of 2015 Chamber Music Side by Side was held as a two-week long residency at the Vietnam National Academy of Music in Hanoi.

Having served as faculty members at Indiana University in Bloomington, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, the trio FUGU members currently teach at the California Institute of the Arts, Pomona College, and at the California State University in Northridge and in Long Beach. They have recorded for Cambria Records, Centaur Records, Cuneiform Records, EAR Records, ECM Records, Innova Recordings, Suisa and Tilia Records, and recently recorded their first trio project with works by British composer Rebecca Clarke, Los Angeles-born Maria Newman and Uruguayan-American Miguel del Aguila. This recording is due to be released in 2016.
